Starlink Satellite Tracker: How to Choose and Follow One Spacecraft
Starlink is a large low Earth orbit communications constellation, not a single satellite. The directory and tracker above therefore begin by asking you to select one catalogued spacecraft. After that selection, SpaceTracker.live loads the same map, orbit, telemetry and observer tools used for other Earth satellites.
A statement such as where is Starlink now has no single answer because different Starlink spacecraft occupy many orbital planes and positions. A precise question names one satellite or NORAD catalog number. The directory exists to make that identification practical.

What the Starlink constellation is
SpaceX describes Starlink as a low Earth orbit satellite constellation designed to provide broadband connectivity. Large groups are launched together and then separate and raise or adjust their orbits. Newly deployed spacecraft can temporarily appear as a closely spaced train before spreading around their assigned orbital plane.
The catalog changes frequently as satellites launch, manoeuvre, enter service or re-enter. For that reason the page retrieves a current directory instead of relying on a permanent hand-written list.
How this directory and tracker work
The directory searches public catalog records by object name, NORAD ID or international designator. Selecting Track passes the chosen numeric ID into the existing satellite tracker. Current orbital elements are then propagated with SGP4 to calculate the selected spacecraft's position.
Only one chosen spacecraft receives the full orbit and pass treatment. This avoids pretending that thousands of objects share one position and keeps the map usable on mobile devices. The orbit line is predictive and can change when a spacecraft performs orbit-raising or station-keeping manoeuvres.

How to use Starlink tracking effectively
- Search for an exact Starlink name or NORAD ID when one is known.
- Press Track to open that spacecraft's calculated live map.
- Set your observer location and review geometric pass times.
- Recheck shortly before viewing because manoeuvres can reduce long-range accuracy.
- Do not assume that every Starlink pass will be bright or visible.
A Starlink train is easiest to recognise soon after deployment, but visibility varies with altitude, orientation, sunlight and local sky conditions. An individual operational satellite may be faint. The page calculates geometry; it does not model every attitude or brightness change.
Educational value and limitations
The constellation is a useful case study in orbital planes, launch deployment, differential drift and space-traffic cataloguing. Students can compare several IDs to see that a network is distributed rather than located at one point.
SpaceTracker.live is independent of SpaceX and does not show internet coverage, service availability or operator telemetry. Catalog data can lag a launch or manoeuvre, and names may change as providers update records.
