Amazon Leo Satellite Tracker: Constellation, Launches and Orbit Guide

Amazon Leo is Amazon's low Earth orbit broadband constellation, previously developed under the name Project Kuiper. The directory above lists the catalogued spacecraft available from the orbital-data provider and allows one satellite to be opened in the full tracker.

The permanent Amazon Leo name was announced in November 2025. Earlier launch records may still use Kuiper mission codes or prototype names, so searching by NORAD ID is helpful when names differ across sources.

Purpose and deployment

Amazon says the network is intended to extend fast, reliable internet beyond the reach of existing infrastructure. Prototype satellites tested key systems before full-scale deployment began in April 2025. Production spacecraft are launched in batches, so the public catalog grows after successful deployment and identification.

A constellation is built over many missions. Satellites may initially appear in lower deployment orbits and later manoeuvre toward operational shells. Consequently, the location and ground track of one spacecraft cannot represent the network as a whole.

How the Amazon Leo tracker works

The directory queries the relevant orbital group and presents names and catalog identifiers. After you choose a spacecraft, its current element set is propagated with SGP4. The map, altitude, speed and local pass values all refer to that selected object.

The page is not connected to Amazon network operations. It cannot show service coverage, user capacity, antenna availability or satellite health. It also avoids claiming that a newly catalogued object has reached its final operational orbit.

How to explore the constellation

  • Search a spacecraft name or NORAD ID in the directory.
  • Open one tracker and note its altitude and inclination.
  • Return to the directory and compare another satellite from a different launch.
  • Use observer-based passes to understand when the selected orbit crosses your local sky.
  • Recalculate often while a spacecraft is raising or changing orbit.

Educational questions to investigate

Amazon Leo can be used to explore how launch batches become a coordinated constellation. Compare deployment spacing, orbital planes and the time required to spread satellites around Earth. The project also illustrates why low Earth orbit can reduce signal travel time compared with geostationary communications orbit, while requiring many moving satellites for continuous coverage.

The tracker presents orbital geometry only. Brightness, communications links and operational status require different data that are not inferred from a TLE or OMM record.

What the directory can teach over time

Revisit the directory after new launches and compare catalog IDs, element epochs and orbital altitudes. The sequence from launch to deployment, checkout and an operational shell is visible only across time; one screenshot cannot describe it. Recording those changes is a useful classroom project in data provenance and responsible interpretation. It also shows why an orbital catalog should not be confused with an operator roster: the catalog describes trackable objects, while Amazon determines which spacecraft are commissioned for network service.

Frequently asked questions

Is Amazon Leo the same as Project Kuiper?

Yes. Amazon renamed Project Kuiper to Amazon Leo in November 2025; older mission names may still contain Kuiper.

Does the map show Amazon internet coverage?

No. It shows the calculated orbit of a selected spacecraft, not network beams, capacity or customer service.

Why are some spacecraft in different altitudes?

Recently deployed satellites may be in checkout or orbit-raising phases, and constellation shells can use different orbital parameters.

Can I track the whole constellation as one object?

No. Every satellite has its own catalog ID and position; choose individual objects for meaningful tracking.
